The Royal Institution was founded in 1799. It is the oldest independent research body in the world. Fourteen nobel prizes have arisen from work at the RI and ten chemical elements were discovered there. Moreover, the Royal Institution is well known not only because of great scientific discoveries that it has housed but also for its dissemination of science to the widest audience possible.
