What Is the Capacity of Our Brain?
"We use only 10 % of our brain capacity" Is this information true ? (...)
I have tried to look for the original reference for this saying. So far, I have been able to track down a comment attributed to Albert Einstein which stated that most humans only use 10% of their brain's potential. I have always taken this to mean that most of the time our brain is idling (ie, watching TV, doing paperwork, doing chores, etc.)
Many of my patients ask me about this (I work at a rehabilitation hospital for brain injuries). If it were true that one only used 10% of the brain's actual mass, then 90% of people with brain injuries would never even notice something had happened! Of course, that's ludicrous, and neuropsychological literature indicates that the brain is used in full.
